Ode to liquid sunshine

By Helen Aitken

Living along the coast of N.C. you'd think we'd get lots of rain during the summer months. And we do, except for my little corner of the county. It's like a super power placed a repellent shield over us and the rain skirts around. So here's to having some liquid sunshine in my neck of the woods.

It sprinkles, it pours, it drowns.

Sometimes it makes such ominous sounds.

We walk or run, away from its path,

Scared of being wet,

Who wants a bath?

I'd love to hear from you. Yes, I know I'm not a poet. Drop me a line at

Here's hoping you need an umbrella today.
