The Lady that Swallowed a Fly

Have you ever read, There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly?

It’s a great children’s book.
It has real consequences, with real meaning to me. Take a guess.

I love bananas, and all kinds of fruit.
Fruit flies lay their eggs in the skins of bananas and other thick fruit.
When the fruit ripens, so do the flies.

For weeks, I’ve had little swarms of fruit flies in my dining room, kitchen and living room.
They fly into my milk, on my sandwich, around my face, and I can’t swat them fast enough.

They bug me. No pun intended.

It is annoying to have a fruit fly sucked up a nostril.
Even worse, speak and have one fly in your mouth!

Scott and I were having a serious conversation. I spoke and the inevitable occurred.

I coughed, sputtered and then gagged.

I was the lady who swallowed a fruit fly.

I did what any person in my predicament would do; I drank half of a Mtn. Dew.

Nothing goes better with a little protein than a Mtn. Dew.

Have a great fly-free day. I'd love to hear from you at aitken.helen@gmail.com.

Have you had a fly today?
