I've been away from my blog for awhile. I've missed being here, but "life things" called me away. Things like doing the laundry, taking care of the dogs and cats, and actually writing for pay have had my attention. Just like you, I have to prioritize my weeks, days and even seconds, so that when other writing opportunities pop up, I have to stop everything and do that.
So, I've got some great news to share.
One of my writing goals this year has been to send out my work to some national contests and see how I do.
So, I sent in 2 humorous, creative nonfiction short stories and 1 Creative Nonfiction story to the S.C. Writer’s Workshop's competition. One humorous story, "Death For Lunch" was selected to appear in the literary publication. I was thrilled.
Last night, I was told that my entry, "Wolf Man Howls into
Manhood" won First Place in the S. C. Writer's Workshop, Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards competition in Nonfiction!
The award includes a full scholarship to the SCWW Conference and publication in The Petigru Review. This story explained how as the wife of a Marine Corps Colonel, commanding in Iraq, I had to deal with military family life at home, and my son's onset of puberty.
The journal will be available in October and given to all
editors, agents, authors, publishers, and writers that attend
the conference... Woohoo.
I'll be back again, soon, with new adventures.
Have a great day. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I'll see you again, soon.
